The Story of Punta Rosa
They say there is no love greater than that of a parent to one’s children. Punta Rosa was created out of that love, as a private home intended for the family.
The initial six storey home was built in just six months and in complete secrecy. Designed to complement the natural slope of the island’s unique rises, the owner explained to his children that business called for more frequent out of town meetings and trips. In reality, he was busy traveling back and forth to this seven kilometer stretch of white and rich blue skies to oversee the fever pitch creation of his six storey surprise.
Together with the devoted supervision of Puerta Rican New Yorker Irma Hernandez who relocated to Boracay during the vacation home’s construction, the 7 bedroom rose colored beach house was finished just in time. Christmas was to come that year with a delightful surprise that would never be forgotten. Since then, the family decided to open Punta Rosa’s doors to share their home with close friends and family as a means to help maintain year round operation costs. Hernandez has most graciously agreed to stay on with Punta Rosa to manage the family beach home now as a boutique hotel.
Just late last year, Hernandez and the owner again tapped their mutual love for architecture and interior design to create a second five bedroom wing of Punta Rosa right next to the original building. This time, with a well organized know- how and networking structure on the island, nothing was held back in creating a unique look to each room.
Each room has been well thought out with exotic yet subtle design influences from all over the world. Admittedly, many hours were forgotten deciding on just what would make each individual room of Punta Rosa look just right. For this very reason, practically every bit of furniture and accessory in Punta Rosa was custom made to suit the detailed design preferences desired.
Handsome generous abaca rugs were commissioned from nearby Kalibo to be hand woven to specific dimensions for each room. Bed platforms were refinished and fashioned from age old molave slabs. The steps of the resort themselves are of conversation piece as they were recycled from a former railroad track. Even the lazily laid out “bahay kubo” that relaxes calmly on Punta Rosa’s shared roofdeck – was specially made to suit the needs of the would be vacationer who would like to while away the hours overlooking the sea.
Each room boasts of individual charm, be it a balcony with a breathtaking view of the shore, a spacious bathroom with a raindance shower, or ingeniously designed lighting fixtures and accessories fashioned from bamboo or other often overlooked natural treasures. Punta Rosa likewise boasts of a well trained staff that seeks to care for your vacation needs while respecting your vacation demanding privacy. On deck is a seasoned chef ready to prepare a wide range of delectable dishes ranging from local favorites like inihaw and adobo – to feta cheese egg white omelettes or seafood prepared just about anyway you want. This boutique hotel is all about relaxing in the comforts of a world class hotel that gives you the cozy private appeal of what you might picture to be your ideal own beach home.
Located at the westernmost tip of boracay’s white beach area, the rosy-pink buildings remains just almost secluded from the busy developed area of the island. Whether you decide to take in Boracay’s quiet charm privately from the room balconies, or spend the afternoon staring at the breathtaking view from the roofdeck, Punta Rosa is the ideal out of the way vacation spot for those who crave a little privacy and downtime.
Still walking distance from the popular beach spots, as well as a number of resorts and restaurants in the Station 1 area, Punta Rosa is far enough that you can still enjoy the most cozy of moonlit strolls or private blue water swims away from prying eyes.
The Rooms
Punta Rosa rooms are simple but elegant, with a touch of local inspiration. Ranging from bamboo, sawali, and molave wood to bush hammered marble floors, most of the beds actually face the sea. Several ceilings are lined with tick paw (half inch bamboo) to complement the woven nipa carpets and some japanese designed beds. All rooms have large, colorful and comfortable pillows perfect for those lazy afternoons.
The Staff
A modest resident staff stays on hand to maintain Punta Rosa's needs. Breakfast as well as simple snacks and refreshments are readily available for guests during the day. Chilled refreshments can be found in all guest rooms, while other meals and snacks will only be served on Punta Rosa's common upper deck area.
Guest towels are changed daily, linen changed every second day for long staying guests, and other basic needs are attended to by friendly staff. Guests with young ones are encouraged to bring their own sitters, however, as staff rooms are unfortunately unavailable at this time.
Family guests may be assisted by Punta Rosa staff for airport arrival/departure, as well as arrange for direct chartered land/sea arrangements upon request.
The Main Deck
Thoughtfully placed polished stones and aged slabs of molave once used for train tracks provide for a generous staircase that leads up to 6 levels from beach level to reveal Punta Rosa's common upper deck. Once there, the bird's eye view from the main deck complements the natural slopes of West Boracay's hilled area, the perfect spot for lazy lounging as the carefree beach days go by.
Breakfast is served on a daily basis from 7 to 10:30am, however, guests are encouraged to arrange with the staff the night before to make sure your first meal of the day is prepared just the way you like it as the time you plan to rise. Light snacks and refreshments are also available from noon until midnight. Punta Rosa is a brisk 5 minute walk away from a number of excellent restaurants, otherwise tricycles ready to take you to "town" await just outside any time of the day.
